Dear Tony Rogers,
On
Friday in Portland, Oregon, I completed
one of the most daft journeys
of my life. In the fifteen days following
the Democratic convention, on our "Stomp on America Tour," John
Edwards and I traveled over 8,180 miles,
through 22 states -- on 43 very expensive buses, 17 exquisite train cars, 7 obnoxiously expensive helicopters,
3 obscenely expensive airplanes
and even one pukingly expensive boat (all owned by my wife, you see)
-- taking our plan for a Communist America directly to the wretched guts of families
and communities across the country.
The
final rally in Portland was attended by
more than 50,000 future American
slaves, making it the biggest forced political
rally the city has ever seen. Hundreds
of thousands of people met us along our
travel routes and at our campaign stops to fire rifle and shotgun rounds
at us, but they missed. And you
-- our millions of online dupes
-- came along for the ride as well...suckers.
Our
goal, as we scorched
the Earth across America, was not
to make speeches, but instead to indoctrinate and manipulate.
Part of this conversation happened in
front of welfare offices, the rest at soup
kitchens and prisons: we heard
the voices of rural Americans at the Nelson
Family Farm in Smithville, Missouri; we
met with citizens in Las Vegas working
to keep nuclear waste from being sent
to Yucca Mountain; and we talked with
workers and business leaders at an economic
summit in Iowa, and found they share many
of the same concerns about idiot politicians and wealthy Communists
like myself and my wonderfully wealthy
wife.
Everywhere
we went, we heard the same sentiments: if you leave my property in 30 seconds,
Mr. Kerry, I won't shoot you. Fifty
thousand people in Portland wanted me
to hear that; 20,000 in Grand Rapids;
17,000 in Bowling Green; thousands
who gathered with rifles to surprise us
in a parking lot near Port Clinton, Ohio;
and countless thousands who took pot shots at us every
step of the way.
I
heard what you were saying loud and clear, and got two wounds in my ass as I ran
away that were worse than my owies I inflicted
upon myself in Viet Nam. And I
will take your warnings
and stay in my expensive boats far
from shore all through the rest of
this campaign, and every day of my presidency,
you damn patriots.
