Matt's photo from across the hole where he first spotted the dwelling. Matt is sorry for the overexposure on the sky. You can see how far above the canyon this family lived! The "duplex" living area is 90 feet off the deck below.
We rappelled down to the hole in the rock ledge at the top left of this photo, and we stayed roped in to traverse to the dwelling to the right. Matt's photo of Tony, rappelling down into the "slot" where this prehistoric family may have planted a ladder.
Matt took this photo from the "front door" of the dwelling as I descended into it.
Tony still on rappel.
Matt took this photo from the "living space" ledge of this dwelling. The two bedroom door openings are visible to the left. Pretty small sleeping quarters. It reminded me of a small dog house, in fact. They must have been really small people.
Tony, sitting in front of the dwelling. Note that my shoulders would NEVER make it inside of their home. Matt reminded me that nobody may have ever been on this ledge in 900 years, so we were really careful about what we were doing.
Going back up with ascenders on the rope.

I was nervous about how to get up and OVER and not get stuck below the edge. I left Matt below with two experimental "micro-ascenders" that freaked him out.
