Winter Camping - Isabella, Minnesota
Couz, Ben and Tony
Friday afternoon and evening was downright balmy (low of 8°F above zero I think). Saturday at noon, the wind started to blow, and it went downhill on the thermometer all day and night, bottoming out at -22°F Saturday night and staying there right into Sunday morning. Sustained wind of 25mph and gusting to 35mph! Still fun? Ver' much!!!
Not pictured: Wally the Logger, and the rest of the fine Friday night Knotted Pine Crew...
February 8-10, 2008

Arriving at camp, Friday afternoon Ben inspecting our mini-keg of Heineken
Our shelter for the next two nights. Nice tent!
Glad to be here!
Tony's camera gear and winter tool packs. My running joke was, "We're here for a week, right?!"
The inside of the tent, before we moved in... A nice little box of fatwood for starting and maintaining our stove...
Cheater tool...
A colorful photo of Tony's pack
Ben on second shift of splitting wood for the tent stove. Wide angle lens effect! Ben running his Gränsfors Bruks axe into some finely seasoned birch...
Couz starting the fire
Note the beer mini-keg right next to the fire, to keep it from freezing...
Couz, Ben and Tony at our fire

Fifteen-second exposure of Couz with his headlamp, drawing silly images.
Ben going for a lightning bolt effect...
Ben and his nice cursive, writing his name on my camera sensor... Couz got his "Z" backwards. It is hard to write backwards in the dark!
Tony ran out of time on the 15-second exposure to complete his "Y". I got my "N" wrong the first time, just like Couz did on his "Z"
Couz starting the tent stove late at night. This photo is lit just by those two candle lanterns, even though the one on the left has four candles. What a great "on steroids" candle lantern!
Ben over the late fire
Creating fireworks for my camera...
Saturday morning, right before breakfast. Yep, that's a frozen banana on the smoldering coals. Couz starting breakfast. Sausages and flapjacks, with butter and real maple syrup!

Silly photo of Ben with the wide angle...
Ben knew it was silly, so he got me back...

Camera danger! Brought it back in too quick and it fogged up...
Wide angle humor on my cold-weather hat!
Sausage and flapjacks! Ver' much!!!
Skipping all day on Saturday, this is now Sunday morning! Cold! One of Tony's boots left outside all night. It is about as pliable as frozen steel...
Tony's completely frozen packs on Sunday morning.
