Somewhere Near The Canada Border - 2008
Gunflint Trail, MN
March 7-9, 2008

Squirrel on the front feeder, Saturday morning
Saturday morning breakfast before our ski
Yep, those are leftover flapjacks...
Ruth & Tami relaxing at the first outlet lake along the trail
Fred found an "otter run" out of the trees!
Ben followed!
The Photographer got left in the spindrift on occasion, but I got good photos like this...
Fred scores 10 points for most color...
We ran into this solo skier pulling his gear in a toboggan. He was looking for solitude, and we ran into him.
Ruth, in a glamour pose...
Ruth, you have something, no, yep, no,
right up by your...nevermind!
In spring/summer/fall, this would be a nasty portage with a canoe.
Nothing but swamp! But it is a mostly frozen swamp, so perfect for skiing.
Fred with skis off, starting to navigate the 20+ foot drop in elevation between two lakes.
There are people in this photo...way up there, hidden behind brush and deadfalls.
Steve following my blaze down the falls.
These photos don't really show it, but it was an up-and-down, over-and-under skirmish...
Note the drop in front of Steve
Ruth stopping for 2 seconds...
Tami is so happy she can't even
keep her eyes open, LOL.
Ben!
Ben! (closer)
Tony!
Tony! (closer)
Tony! (again...) Ben took these photos,
and more later on,
so I showed up at least a couple of times!
Watch the ankle-twisters...there were many!
Down at the next lake at the stream outlet. Tami and Tony both found holes in the ice and got iced-up boots...
Ben, cleaning off the ice from Tami's ski boot...
It was a LONG portage, so this was just bound to happen! We separated them quickly...
Right into the headwind going west, although it was only about a 10 mph wind at most...
Stopping at a BWCA campsite with a fire grill, and some socializing
Ruth & Fred!
Ruth & Fred!
Ben, Tami & Steve
Ben took my camera and shot a bunch of these mid-trip camp photos. Nice job, Ben!
Goggles were better than sunglasses!
Tami, nice light!
Colorful ski and pack art...
Great exposure by Ben, showing where we came from across the lake
Ben self-portrait...not bad, actually!
Wide-angle 16mm fisheye fun...
Wide-angle 16mm fisheye fun...
Wide-angle 16mm fisheye fun...
Ruth put in her contact lenses, finally!
Purposely-fun Wide-angle 16mm fisheye view of Ben making a pouty-pout face for special effect
Testing long-exposure light-writing at -22F before I subjected Ben & Tami to cold temps first...
Tami & Ben, and Neb & Imat
We totally screwed up the clone machine...
At around 2am, Ben ran in after taking a nature call and declared that this was outside!
Ben and I tried several views and I tried several different exposures, and it worked...
Enjoy all the rest, without commentary...
