CMP National Match Competitions - 2008
Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP)
Camp Perry, Ohio

Only Steve and I were able to travel and compete this year, and we made the best of it and had a grand time! It was hot and humid as usual, but not that bad. The competitor turnout was a little lower than usual this year, probably because of high gasoline and diesel prices.
July 30 - August 2, 2008

Steve in the precious shade before the M1 Carbine National Match The amazing CMP Staff, who squadded us on our firing points through the week.

Tony prepped and ready to shoot the M1903A3 rifle at the firing line.
Wiping the brow before shooting. It was 89 degrees in the shade, and about 109 in the sun.
Some guys dress up in vintage WWII
gear for this match.

A good view of the shooting position and the targets. Paying attention to your target number is obviously very important.

Steve shooting offhand standing position, still at 200 yards. All shooting is at 200 yards in this match.
A view from the Viale Range pits
I always dislike the Viale Range pits, as they are so low. Check out the minimal clearance from my head to the top of the bunker wall.
Saturday morning, John C. Garand National Match. O-Dark hundred hours...
It was already 90 degrees before the sun even came up. We traveled 1/2 a mile with our gear in the dark to get here.
Sunrise, and a pleasant wind straight south off of Lake Erie.

I got a bronze medal in the John C. Garand National Match!
The original Prisoner of War stencil on our hut #KK2 door, from WWII.
Not many of the original POW Huts are even serviceable, but ours was just fine.
Steve, John and Jennifer Butcher on Commercial Row on the base. Very glad we met John and Jennifer! Good people!
