These were all shot with a Canon EF III 75-300mm lens. Since the CMOS sensor on my digital camera is only 26mm wide, versus a standard 35mm film frame, the relevant focal length on the lens increases to about 100-400mm focal length.

This is great when you want to stretch out your lens, but inversely is bad when you try to use a super-wide angle or a fisheye lens, as the wide angle is diminished. It is a decent trade-off for most purposes, especially with the types of photos that I shoot.

An interesting side-note is the ultra-high resolution that the Mars rovers are achieving with only 1 Megapixel cameras on board. They achieve such high resolutions due to their incredibly precise custom lenses, which cost about $20,000 each if you wanted one for your own camera.
