Knowlton Creek - Spirit Mountain
Spirit Mountain, Duluth, Minnesota

The FIM Trial Championships were rolling through this location last weekend, and the creek got seriously degraded from that event. There are massive erosion tracks that have been created where the cycles went where they should never have gone. As much as I enjoyed the Moto Trials, there are areas of this creek that are permanently damaged and it is rather severe in several places. Actual runoff feeder streams changed courses and are digging deep holes all along Knowlton Creek. Kind of a bummer, because this is a beautiful creek bed. I started at the top of the creek at exactly 7:00 PM, and finished this photo series at 9:45 PM and hiked back up. It took me 35 minutes at a steady pace to get back to my vehicle. It was much easier going down than going back up, I kid you not!
All of these photos were shot it RAW format, converted to .TIF with zero compression, and then converted with Photoshop to web files seen here. They start as 3072 pixels x 2048 pixels, and are about 7 MB in file size. I try to keep them under 200k in file size when I make them web-ready.

At left: This was just an illusion, but I saw it through my viewfinder and isolated it. A little "surfer dude" yes?

He is riding that plank of a board rather well...
