Grandma's Marathon and the Elvis Impersonators - 2008
Mile 18, AKA The "Elvis Outpost," Just North of Brighton Beach
Special thanks to Kelly and Mike for luring us Elvi into this outpost every third Saturday in June and encouraging us to dress up as seriously poor Elvis impersonators. And an EXTRA SPECIAL thanks to all of the Grandma's Marathon runners for making it worthwhile! (Note: if you smile or give a fist-pump or a thumb's up or have a good costume or motif, you get your photo taken! If you just look great after pounding asphalt for 18 miles, you get your photo taken as well!) Everyone looked great this year! The Photographer takes his makeshift Elvis wig off to all of you!!!

Running sub-5-minute miles! Wow!
The Photographer (Late 1970's Las Vegas Edition) and Shirley as Honolulu Elvis...
The Elvis Crew, minus Kelly
Don with some nice mutton chops!
Elvis never had hair that looked this good!
Elvis was never this thin, either!
OKelly looking slick!

Don and Marley smartly staying out of the sun, and cheering on runners across the highway
How To Make A Statement: Lesson 1
How can anyone be this happy and look so good after running 18 miles??? Amazing!
Larry from Iowa!
Arnie Metzger, at 18 miles!
Fantastic Attitude 101: Or, "How to run a marathon with serious style!" Nice!
These guys blew me away. It is already hot as heck, and they are running in foam beer bottle costumes!
I give them 25 Unofficial Style Points, and a recommendation that 10 minutes be taken off of their finishing times...
10 Unofficial Style Points granted for making it look so darn easy!
There are Style Points here, undetermined...
When you look good and fire a look like this at the photographer, you are getting your photo taken!
This enthusiastic runner flagged me down early enough that I shot this photo and quickly put my camera down and took her photo with her own camera in front of all the Elvi! Nice!
Seriously, how can 18 miles of running make you this happy??? Apparently it does! Very nice! Twenty Bonus Points for Happiness!!!
My Buddy, Matt Kohlhaas, looking good!
Thumb Up, indeed! Way to go, Matt!

Matt going away!
Twenty Unofficial Points for Happiness! Five Bonus Points for the genuine smile!
Looks like he just started a 5K, man!
Very nice!
Go Jit! Atta boy!
Grandma's Marathon 2008 - Bib F3682 - Happiest Runner Contest!
The possible winner for Happiest Runner in my gallery of runner photos!
I'm not sure what this symbol is she flashed, but I know it isn't a bad thing, and she is obviously running very well!
Not everyone gets to slap-hands with Elvis when they run a marathon!
I see that many runners Sharpie'd their name on their arm. Is their last name on the other arm? Was that for just-in-case you fell down face-first somewhere and the paramedics could call you by your first name??? I'll have to ask about this...
Slappin' hands with a row of Elvis!
Slappin' hands with a row of Elvis! They would run out of their track lanes to do this! Fabulous!
Jen and Alicia! Grandma's Marathon 2008!
Flags and Motif's, see? They get photographed!

This is the Tuesday night Marathoner Recuperation Party at the Kohlhaas cabin. The runners, Matt and Arnie, feeling very swell (on the right) in this photo.

(Arnie and Big Dave the Dog looking nearly dead in the middle in the distance!)
Ted Stocke (left) showed up for the sendoff before Matt & Barb, Arnie & Tara, and Dave & Tucker (the dogs) headed back to Colorado.

Congrats on just finishing this marathon, Matt & Arnie! And way to go both on finishing with pretty nice times.

I never got a photo of the lovely Tara Schoedinger (foreground), besides the back of your head! Sorry, Tara! I'll take a nice and flattering photo of you next time, I promise. I see Dave has a boot in his mouth in this photo, LOL!
